5 Clean Sweep or Takedown (ends in Mount) *
Advantages
1 Submission attempts (clarification note below)
1 Attempted guard pass (pass isn’t held for a full 3 seconds, or forces opponent to turtle)
1 Takedown attempts (takedown isnt held for a full 3 seconds)
*3 second rule:
All highlighted positions must held for at least 3 seconds in order for you to gain the points.
In addition to the above, the referee must deem that the submission is of sufficient effectivness/tightness as to force the opponent to execute an escape. Loose submission attempts that are then let go by the competitor will not be counted.
Takedown Rule:
If an opponent goes for a takedown and successfully manages to do it, but in the meantime their opponent catches them in a guillotine, then both will be awarded their respective points. All submission attempts must be clearly recognised and executed submissions.
If a fighter goes for a takedown and their opponent turns (spins) for a turtle position as they are getting thrown, 2 points will be awarded for the takedown.
Pulling Guard:
You must make reasonable contact when pulling guard on opponent.
Reversals Rule:
Unlike some other competitions we do not score points for reversals. To be counted as a sweep and not a reversal the technique must be executed from a recognised guard/semi-offensive position.
Running away:
It is considered a foul if you take 3 or more steps backwards and you are then deemed to be running away from you opponent and avoid engaging in combat.
Resetting fighters:
The referee has the right to warn and stand up fighters if it is deemed that there is not enough action. If the actions leaves the matted area the referee has the right to place fighters either back in the same position or stand them up, if it is deemed necessary.
The winner will be decided according to:
If one competitor gives up or submits by tapping the leg, arm or verbally.
If one competitor is ahead on points or advantages of his opponent.
Referee’s decision.
If referee feels one competitor is unable to defend himself or feels the competitor is in imminent danger, the referee will declare the winner.
If a fighter breaks the rules three times he will be disqualified by the referee.
If no one is declared the winner after the set overtime period, then the referee/judges will decide the winner.
Fouls:
If a fighter is deemed to have broken a rule that deserves a warning then he/she will be issued a verbal warning. If they then break a rule once again then 2 points will be given to their opponent. On the third time of an infringement, they will be disqualified.
Reaping the knee:
Reaping the knee (outer foot crossing over the hip) is strictly forbidden and warrants an instant DQ however we ackowledge the use of this foot positioning to carry out certain sweeps or setups and thus should the outer leg be attacking the upper thigh/hip this will be considered legal. Should the referee judge that the pressure has fallen down to the knee they may issue an instant DQ. (NOTE: this rule is currently under review)
Sportsmanship:
No unsportsmanlike behaviour.
No techniques applied with malicious intent/deliberate intention to injure instead of submit.
Referee’s decision is final.
Fighting Time:
5 minutes in qualifying fights.
5 minutes in the finals (may be extended to 10 minutes dependant on running of the day)
1 overtime round of 3 minutes is added if fighters are even. This is on a golden points basis where the person who scores a recognised point first being proclaimed the winner. If no one is declared the winner then the referee/judges will decide the winner.
Cornermen:
1 Cornerman only (must stay in corner/on the chair provided)
No comments directed at opponent or opponent’s team during bout, the competitor will be responsible for the actions fo their corner.
Equipment:
Fighter may only use gum shield, tights, box, knee pads, shorts and rash vest. Equipment must not be deemed too loose or dangerous as to endanger your opponent. You will be given a set time (3 minutes) to change into the proper regulation attire or be disqualified by the referee if this is not so.
Rules meetings:
All fighters are advised to query any aspect of the ruleset that they do not understand during the registration period, prior to the start of the tournament.
Novice rules:
In addition to the illegal techniques listed above, Novice competitors are prohibited from using toe holds/figure four leg locks or wrsitlocks (Instant disqualification). Intermediate competitors are prohibited from using toe holds/figure four leg locks.
Hello gttg.
I wanted to ask what division to enter? I am a goshin ju jitsu blue belt, but not in bjj?
Hope you can help.
Many thanks
Hi Kyp,
We would suggest that the ‘Novice’ category will be suitable for you. The rule above regarding blue belts is directly linked to a BJJ blue belt.
Without going into the differences between BJJ and trad JJ, unless you have been training specificaly in a groundwork/grappling art for more than 18 months I can see no reason why a novice entry would be unsuitable.
These are guidlines and we trust people to be honest in choosing their category as any blatant ‘sandbagging’ (though highly unlikely) will not be tollerated.
Good luck on the mat!

“Fighter may only use gum shield, tights, box, knee pads, shorts and rash vest”
Are there only certain types of shorts permitted? And if you don’t own a rash vest/guard, what other attire would be suitable/allowed?
Hi jamie,
All shorts within reason are fine such as fight/board shorts ot tight Vale Tudo style shorts.
As for tops, either rash guard or decent fitting t-shirt/vest (or bare chested). The idea is simply so no one can get tangled in loose clothing/attire.

Hi Josh
I tend not to wear mouthguards as I don’t like them. Are you indifferent, strongly recommending them or making them mandatory?
Chris
Hi Chris,
Neither mouthguards nor boxes are mandatory protective equipment.
It is at the competitors diiscretion but we would of course suggest they should be worn for your safety if possiible.
Cheers,

How does the tournamemt work?
Do you progress if you win and go home if you lose?
or is there a group/league?
Hi Peter,
For this event the largest brackets (which currently have in excess of around 16 fighters) will be a single elimination style tournament. So the winner progresses untill 1st/2nd/3rd are crowned.
If a bracket exists where only 2 fighters are present (as it stands may only apply to a couple of the advanced brackets) then the fighters will be offerred best of 3 or merged with another weight class.
If a bracket of 3 fighters exists (as it stands may only apply to a couple of the advanced brackets) they will all fight in a round robin ensuring that they all get two fights.
Finaly, divisions where a good number of fighters have entered but less than 16 will be offered as repecharge system (double elimination).
We appreciate that the use of the repechage is not consistent across all weight divisions on this occassion, however around 80% of all competitors will get at lesast 2 fights.
For the next event we will be aiming to ensure every fighter gets at least two fights.
Kind Regards,
GTTG Admin.

Jack
Hi,
Will you be posting the novice -85kg and novice +95kg finals or any other fights?
Thanks
Steve
hi there GTTG is there gonna be a junior cat if so what is the age limit if not how old the enter as a normal fighter………
Hi Wez,
We have a single juniors division, entry to which is by agreement with ourselves only (hence why we have not openly published it on the website). It’s simply so we can adequately control the entries and ensure all juniors are matched evenly and have an enjoyable and safe competition. The last tournament had a juniors division of around 10 competitors but we expect this to be slightly higher for this event. Juniors are 16 and under.
We also provide a discounted entry fee for juniors (£15 as opposed to the adult entry fee of £20). All competitors will get at least 2 matches.
If you’d like to enter, please have your instructor contact us to confirm they are happy for you to compete and we’ll set up a seperate payment from the main reg page.
Kind Regards,
GTTG Admin
hi, are the weigh-ins @ 9am even if we are not fighting @ 10am or are they just before the fights etc…
cheers
Hey GTTG .
I am registered on your next event. How comes Heel Hooks are not allowed ?
Kind regards
Dan
Hi Dan,
Thanks for registering.
Heel hooks are an extremely dangerous technique (partially due to the lack of pain prior to the ligament damage being caused) and are banned in the majority of grappling sport rules sets with the exception of pro ADCC rules and pro MMA fights. They are not even legal for black belt BJJ fights (or black belt no-gi superfights held by other grappling comps). For this reason we have chosen to omit them from our events. Were we to consider adding them in the future it would still only be to the advanced divisions.
Kind Regards,
GTTG Admin.
Hi Tom,
Weigh-ins will be about 30 mins before each div is due on the mat. We should be posting a timetable on the website by close of play Thursday 17th which will let you knwo running times.
As you’re Novice -77Kg you will be fairly early on so getting there at 9am is probably a good idea.
Kind Regards,
GTTG Admin.
Good Morning GTTG,
For the -84/-85kg category (novice), can I confirm exactly what the weight category is, at the point of weighing in. As I am 83kg I would like this clarified, I really dont want to be in the -95kg cat if i can help it.
Cheers

Hi Jonathan,
The weight classes are different to the last event. As stated above and on the registration form, the new weight class is -84Kg. We will be allowing a 0.5Kg buffer on the day.
At 83Kg, you’ll be sitting perfectly for the -84Kg class in which you’re currently registered.
Kind Regards,
GTTG Admin.
